ABOUT LIZ
Liz is a multidisciplinary artist, a Peruvian adoptee, raised in the Midwest, and ever-growing up, currently in Brooklyn, NY. Her creative process is a way of integrating many parts together - the existential, the ancestral, the spiritual, and the scientific - into one living vision. She follows her curiosity about identity, altered states, and the workings of consciousness, letting these questions to shape both her inner world and outer artisitc expression.
For Liz, art began as a kind of alchemy - turning what she couldn’t express with words, into form; translating emotion, expressing facets of herself, exploring thoughts, and getting lost and rediscovering herself in the process . Today, creating is still that and more: her compass and playground, where she honors her ancestry, communes with her unconscious, and explores the territory where diverging parts meet.
Adoption shaped Liz’s sense of possibility and has informed her curiosities from a young age. Growing up between stories, she developed a heightened awareness of life’s contingency; any turn of fate might have placed her in another family, culture, or country - and, in a broader sense, any soul could’ve inhabited any body, mind, living under a different sky. This awareness stirred a deep curiosity about consciousness, a quiet longing for the Self that exists beyond the body, and the circumstances we are offered and how we choose to use them to evolve. This in-between state - a feeling of existing at the threshold between identities - inspired her fascination with liminal spaces and the interplay of opposing forces. She hopes to reach others who feel “in-between,” encouraging them (and herself) to let go of limiting ideas, reclaim their nuanced stories, and shape new ways of existing, even amidst uncertainty or struggle.
Within her commercial work, Liz has collaborated with a range of clients over the years, lending her artistic vision to interior murals, signage, illustration, and more. Her adaptable approach balances a creative sensitivity with a high level of craftsmanship, striving to deliver work that is meaningful for both herself and her clients.
Liz's personal work, currently in painting, ceramics, and mixed media - she is drawn to geometry, pattern, surrealism, contrasting elements, and symbols. Nature, dreams and meditative imagery feed her work, as well as a deep desire to reconnect with the traditions and wisdom of her ancestral home. Inspired by the Andean concept of tinkuy — the transformative meeting of distinct forces, energies or perspectives, creating something new - her work reflects the interplay of her Peruvian lineage and American upbringing, her analytical mind and creative intuition, and her spiritual experiences and scientific sensibility. A vital source of insight for her practice is the hypnogogic and liminal spaces, a realm she trusts to tap into, connect and inspire her work.
She works with the dualities of belonging and difference, structure and freedom, feminine and masculine, holding them as separate and whole at once. At its heart, her work trusts that being human isn’t about clinging to fixed answers, but about staying open and sensitive enough to live inside the mystery of becoming, and surrendering to the unexplainable and unknown.
